The In Between? group, which went to Slovakia, visited Banská Bystrica, Hrušov, Veľký Krtíš and Šahy. 6 young people from Hungary, Poland, Slovakia and Ukraine – Ági Fernengel, Blažena Križová, Alicja Mużnik, Oleksandr Popovych, Lea Potocka and Krisztina Éva Szilágyi – met 12 families with different roots and origins.
Participants of the project recorded the family stories, scanned the documents, took pictures of unique objects connected with the history of the families and the region. Almost all interviews were conducted in Slovak and Hungarian. Although the stories were sometimes painful and emotional, the hosts were hospitable and willing to talk openly about the past and present, the relations between people living close to each other in the borderland areas, their customs and traditions.
The ENRS would like to express its gratitude to Dr. Jana Pecníková and Ms Anna Slatinská from Matej Bel University in Banská Bystrica, Mr Pavel Bendík, major of Hrušov, Ms Ivana Lešková from the Cultural Centre in Veľký Krtíš, and Mr Tibor Pálinkás from the Šahy Museum. Without your great help, passion and engagement, the project would not succeed!
