The three-day event has started on Tuesday, 16 October.
What impact does religion have on the memory of 20th-century events? Within the memory studies little attention has been paid so far to the religious aspects of remembrance and their impact on cultural and family memory as well as contemporary politics. Meanwhile, various groups and religious organisations construct their own narratives on the 20th-century experiences. The religious interpretations of the past are also used in the field of politics, affecting memory practices and public perceptions of the past.
The aim of the 8th conference within the Genealogies of Memory framework is to highlight the intricate links between religion and memory. The latest reflections and research findings is being showcased by scholars from over 20 countries. Apart from presentations and film screenings, the programme also includes lectures by Prof. Alexander Agadjanian and Prof. Geneviève Zubrzycki, as well as a debate featuring representatives of different faiths.
Entrance is free.
