During this tour, we will familiarise ourselves with urban developments and contemporary art. First, we will explore the capital city’s modern architecture. The walk’s guides will examine aesthetics, materials and the societal conditions that shaped the development of modern architecture in Helsinki from the 1930s to 2018. This almost 100-year period represents one of significant social change and rapid urbanisation in Finnish history. The walking tour includes a visit to the internationally and critically acclaimed Helsinki Central Library Oodi, opened in 2018. After the walking tour we will visit Kiasma, Finland’s leading contemporary art museum, located in the heart of Helsinki. The museum’s collection of over 8,500 works includes Finnish and international art from the 1970s onwards.
