13–14 May 2025, Bucharest, Romania
Eighty years after the end of World War II, the ways we remember and teach about the war are still evolving. With fewer direct witnesses, the challenge of engaging younger generations with its history becomes more pressing.
This two-day event will bring together scholars, educators, and memorial site representatives to discuss the lasting consequences of WWII and contemporary challenges in remembrance and historical education. Through keynote lectures, panel discussions, film screenings, and interactive workshops, participants will explore strategies for teaching difficult histories, navigating divergent memory cultures, and ensuring WWII’s relevance for future generations.
Part of the ENRS campaign ‘WWII – 80 Years After’, the conference will offer a platform for sharing best practices in historical education. Hosted at the Romanian Academy Hall and Academy House in Bucharest, the event will also include an optional historical tour of the city.
