We are pleased to announce that the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity (ENRS) is a partner of the upcoming international conference “A Mnemonic Turn and the Future of Democratic Politics,” taking place in New York City on 24–25 April 2025. The event is organized by the Memory Studies Network (MSN) of the Transregional Center for Democratic Studies (TCDS) at The New School for Social Research, in cooperation with ENRS.
The conference brings together scholars and practitioners from around the world to examine the complex relationship between collective memory and democracy, with topics including memory politics, transitional justice, decolonization, authoritarianism, and grassroots memory initiatives.
ENRS is actively contributing to the conference programme. On the first day, Gabor Danyi (Deputy Head of the ENRS Academic Department) will chair a panel exploring how postcommunist memory politics and transitional justice efforts in Eastern Europe can be reinterpreted through a postcolonial lens. The discussion will offer comparative insights into how various countries in the region have confronted the legacy of communism and the challenges of democratization.
On the second day, Rafał Rogulski, Director of ENRS, will moderate a roundtable discussion on the evolving role of public memory in shaping democratic politics and international relations after World War II and the Cold War. The session will reflect on how collective memories continue to influence geopolitical realities and democratic norms across different regions.

We look forward to engaging in these important conversations and invite all those interested in the intersections of history, memory, and democracy to join us in New York.
