The film “Central Europe goes to freedom” by Mirosław Jasiński, a legend of the Polish-Czechoslovak Solidarity movement, shows the key political events in the early 1990s in Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary which led to the formation of the Visegrad Triangle, and later the expulsion of Soviet troops from the region.

The film shows how long-standing personal contacts and the cooperation of opposition movements resulted in a rare international cooperation. It concentrates on the heroes of those days, who influenced the course of events and played an important role in the process of freeing Central Europe from the influences of the Soviet Union. “Central Europe goes to freedom” was co-produced by the European Network Remembrance and Solidarity and the “Remembrance and the Future” Centre.

A preview of the film was screened at the “Film on the border” festival on 3 May 2013 in Cieszyn. After the screening a discussion was held with the makers and protagonists of the film: Mirosław Jasiński, prof. Jan Rydel, Ákos Engelmayer, Petruška Šustrová, Radosław Poraj Różecki and Marek Mutor.

The Warsaw premiere of the film took place on the 27 May 2013 in the Muranów cinema. After the screening there was a debate led by Aleksander Kaczorowski, with Petruška Šustrova, Jan Krzysztof Bielecki, Ján Čarnogurský, Ákos Engelmayer, Grzegorz Kostrzewa-Zorbas and Jan Rydel as guests.

On 4 June 2013 “Central Europe goes to Freedom” was screened in Wrocław, in the Nowe Horyzonty (New Horizons) cinema, with Petruška Šustrova, Mirosław Jasiński and Jarosław Broda as guests.
