Professor Loew has been the director of the German Institute for Polish Affairs in Darmstadt since 2019, where he has worked as a researcher and as deputy director since 2002. He completed his doctorate at the Freie Universität Berlin in 2001 on local historical culture in Gdansk (1793–1997) and habilitated at the Dresden University of Technology in 2014. Dr Loew has been teaching at the Technical University of Darmstadt since 2009, where he has been an honorary professor since 2020. His academic research focuses on the history of Poland, Germany and German-Polish relations in modern times; the history of Poles in Germany; the history and current affairs of Gdansk, Pomerania and Zachodniopomorskie; the history of literature and music; and a comparative history of Eastern Central Europe and the culture of remembrance.
He has been a member of the ENRS Academic Council since May 2024.
